Fur coat question, totally not urgent :)
I'm doing alot of research on Chihuahuas, we're about to get another. I haven't done much reading on the breed past temperments and training, and I was just reading about their coats.
I read that it can take up to two years for the coat to grow in and become all fluffy.
So I was wondering... do you think our Leila will get longer fur? I don't think so, but I was wondering if she's going to look like a hyena forever, lol. We got her from the Humane Society two months ago so I have no idea how it's been growing or what it looked like when she was a baby.
So totally not important, I was just curious about it

That's what she looked like when we got her, her fur was a frizzy mess, it didn't look like it had ever been brushed or washed or taken care of at all. This is closer to it now, but the photo above shows the length better.

She's beautiful! How old is she? It depends on the dog, some dogs coats will continue to fill out, others will stay sparse. Her fur is pretty full.

She's about 1 year old now. So it does look sort of full?
I've always wanted a super poofy Chi, then fell in love with this one. When I read that it might keep growing, my heart stopped, lol.

She's gorgeous!
I wonder if she may have another breed in her lineage? If she has wirecoats or a breed with shorter 'long' fur in her genetics, it may explain her wild, wavy fur.

I'm going to be so happy when I can post without a delay!
Everyone asks if she's a Chi mix. If someone here thinks she is, I'm really going to believe it, you guys seem to really know your stuff!
Are we still welcome here if she's a mix? We're getting another Chi so we should be, right?

Oooh. Looks like I can post without delay now.
I responded to this, but it doesn't seem to have gone through.
She's about 1yr old now
I forgot to mention before, the Humane Society thought she had never, ever been around humans, that she was completely a stray from the day she was born. So they said they just guessed her breed.
So it doesn't look like it'll grow any more?
What can I do to help relax it? So many people have told me to shave her fur because it'll grow out healtier but I'm not sure I want to do that O,o
Is conditioner okay in their fur? I've been thinking about treating it with that, but I don't know if it's okay on dogs or not.

i'm no expert!! but I'd say she was deer headed, rather than the more popular apple headed. She seems to have similar build, coat and head shape to my Romeo, he's two and a half now so I guess he's done growing his coat hope that helps a little? She's gorgeous anyway!! x
