The clasp are good and tight. They are actually locked together. There is a "dent" in the clasp and that how they lock them together. I love it because It puts absolutely no pressure on her neck.

I actually haven't had to wash it yet, but they are machine washable with a mild detergent and can be tumble dried with little or no heat. I think they would hold up pretty well because they're made of ultrasuede and it is apparently resistant to fraying, stains, etc.

My chi's all have a ferret carrier they travel in. I get the regular seat belt thru the handle, and fasten it. It saved Bonnie from heavens knows what when a crazy driver cut accross 3 lanes of thruway traffic to get off an exit, he evidently amost forgot about. I had to slam on my brakes. Thankfully we didn't hit, but boy did she hit the front of that carrier hard. They love their carriers and sleep in them often. The other thing would be a small crate. Surely they would fit in your new car.

Hi ya, I find Canine & Co have a great selection. I have the soft step in harnesses for my Chi's (they can't get out of them as they are fastened with strong velcro and a clasp) and fit snugly they're also easy to get on (no struggling putting them over their little heads) and the price is great! My Lab uses the Ezydog harness and the quality is great. The harness came with a seat belt attachment but I preferred an adjustable one that was longer - so bought this as well. You just attach to your dog's harness in the car. Think they ship worldwide.
