delicate question
I hope this is not offensive. I can't think of any delicate way to put this so I am sorry but Barney is humping things like blankets and pillows. Also he will walk up to our other dog and either try to lick his privates or lift his leg for the other dog to lick him. I obviously correct the behavior immediately but it doesn't seem to be changing anything. Any suggestions?

Hi. I wouldn't worry about offending anyone, we're all pretty easy going here. How old is he? Is he neutered? Mylo does this. He's humped things since he was little and tries to lick Willow. She's just started humping things too but I think she's copying Mylo. It's perfectly normal so I don't correct it unless he starts humping humans. If you're uncomfortable with it then a clap of the hands and a sharp 'no' every time should stop him. If not, a time out usually does the trick for me.
If he's not neutered but you plan on doing it, sometimes this can stop or reduce the behaviour. There is no guarantee. Hope this helps.

This is normal for a male , my little Ike does that. I am hoping when we get him neutered it will stop, other male dogs I have had over the years, didn't stop after they were neutered, but it was much less.

It's just normal sexual behaviour. Sex isn't taboo for dogs, it's just fun for them. So correct it like you would any other behaviour you don't like, and try not to feel embarrassed!

Rolo humps everything, toys, arms, legs, whatever he comes across much to the amusement of my 13 year old. He usually starts it in the evening, the rest of the day he's fine. Evenings are humpy time. I heard that its not necessarily a sexual thing but a way of dominating things. So now we say "Rolo, will you please stop dominating my arm". Sounds much nicer.

Toby humped everything before I got him neutered. Now he only humps one "special" toy.

Odie is a humper and she's a girl! I think that neutering in males would make a difference, but it's not always a hormonal thing. My girl likes to dominate toys that are bigger than her, and the cats. It's funny because our cat Lance humps our cat Loki, and Odie also humps Loki. He's truly dominated.
