What the heck is up with my little Roo? At just under 6 months old, he has two rows of front teeth on the top and bottom. Again, this is only his front teeth. On top of that, this dog hardly ever, EVER barks! I thought little chi's were the "yippiest dogs on the planet"! Seriously, the first time Roo barked I almost wet my pants it was so unexpected! I looked at my friend and said, "Awww, he just said his first word"!

Is Roo defective or WHAT?

Chis often times do not lose their baby teeth. I would give him lots of things to chew on like deer antlers, bully sticks, toys and such to chew on and the baby teeth could still come out. When you have him neutered you can get the baby teeth pulled without having to put him under anesthesia twice. Jaxx is over one year and still has some of his baby teeth but our vet doesn't want to take them out unless they start to be a problem.

Not all chis are barkers some are very quiet. Jaxx very rarely barked but we didn't even hear him bark the first time until he was probably 8 months. His barking has increased but it is still rare. He will bark if I ask him at dinner time if he wants something to eat. He also barks if someone comes to the door and I don't go to the door. He also barks at one (an English bulldog) of the dogs in our neighborhood if he is too far away and we don't stop to say hello to him.

It took Tiki awhile before she started baking but I think she barks mostly because my other dog does.

I'm realizing these sweet babies are so full of personality. Seriously, Roo is the smartest dog I've ever had, and the funniest without question. He has a BAD case of OCD, not to mention all the little quirks and quips. He's so entertaining we never really watch TV anymore!

Does anyone else's chi do this: When Roo is excited and playing, the hair that runs along his spine will stand on end from the tip of his tail to the top of his head. It is the oddest thing EVER, and so freakin' precious I'm smiling just picturing it in my mind...and I'm at work! So everyone in my newsroom is wondering what I'm typing on my computer right now!

I have never had a 'yippy' chihuahua.... and I have had at least one all my life.......they bark at the 'normal' dog stuff, knock on the door, person in 'their' yard... but it doens't last long and they are quiet......

I don't think I have ever Jaxx's hair do this but I am going to have to watch for it.
I know exactly what you mean about not having to watch TV anymore. I was laughing so hard today at Jaxx. I gave him a blanket after he had a bath to stay warm. It took him 10 minutes literally to move the blanket around to the spot he wanted. He was so happy he had a blanket he was bouncing and making the recliner/rocker rock as he moved back and forth so fast trying to burrow himself under the blanket and move it around. After he found his spot I thought, "Ohhh why didn't I video that because it was so funny."

My other dog taught Ike how to bark, he barks with them and I know most of the time he has no idea of why, he is barking, enjoy the peace.

Girl, I know JUST how that looked! I laughed out loud as I read your response! Roo takes half an hour to 'prepare' his nightly nest, we just watch, smile and giggle all the way to dream land. These little boogers are just SO FULL of PERSONALITY! I've wanted a chi all my life and now that I finally have one I'm DYING to get another one!
