Default Introducing an adult chi to a puppy chi - suggestions?

Hi all,

I have a 4-year-old chihuahua, Chloe. In 3 weeks, I am getting a male chihuahua puppy, Bane, who will be 15-weeks-old at that time.

I'm really nervous to introduce the two. Chloe is my baby, and I'm scared she will think I'm trying to replace her with Bane. I actually thought it would be nice for her to have a companion during the day when I am at work.

Chloe interacts with two other dogs on a regular basis: my sister's chihuahua and my parent's schnoodle. She is great with them, but not with many other dogs (especially other females).

Does anyone have any suggestions how to introduce Chloe and Bane? Any tips to help them grow to like each other? I really have NO ideas, and I want to do this right. Please help!

Thanks !

When we brought Ike home I put him on the floor and Sadie (6 yr old pug) started smelling him, he moved and she jumped, I guess she thought he was a toy. He started walking around and she followed him everywhere. We were getting nevous, so I picked him up put him in my lap, and she went and layed down. We had no problem and Sadie is very spoiled. So Congratulations and good luck, can't wait to see Bane!

Thanks!

I've read that it's sometimes a good idea to separate the puppy from the adult the first few weeks so the adult will feel more comfortable? Bring them together a few times a day, but have them sleep in different rooms...Any suggestions on that method?

We got Leila from the Humane Society, and she was super skittish. She never reacted well around other dogs, but started playing with our cat and then wanted to play with other small dogs. So we got another Chi just a few days ago for her to have a companion.
We put Micha, the new baby, on the floor in her crate to let Leila smell her. We really thought Leila would be the "problem", lol. Nope! Micha wanted nothing to do with her, and wouldn't stop barking. So I held her and pet her while they met, and Leila adores her. But Micha still wants Leila to stay away, I don't blame her because Leila keeps getting in her face, tugging on her ear and running, she just wants to play, while baby Micha is just trying to adjust. It's getting better though, I can set them both on my lap at the same time, even though Micha turns her back like "I'm too good for you". It's so cute!

So good luck! Let us know what you do and how it goes!

Hey that's like me lol. When dex was 4 yrs old and I was getting KC who was 8 weeks old...i actually brought dex with me to meet her and the other dogs and pups by the breeders place. I wanted to see how he would act with her. She is a very social dog tho so she wanted to play with dex when she got home but since dex didn't want anythin to do with her besides the sniffin...i put her in a playpen lettin dex know that he's still the first pup in the house. Gradually I let KC out to meet and greet dex and a couple months later they worked themselves out and cuddle andnplaybtogether all the time!

Oh also I always fed them separately durin the learnin process. I always gave dex his food first at dinner time and then KC had a go at her own bowl...it worked out quite well besides the minor setback of her cryin a whole bunch times but the ignorin the cries worked real well afterwards
