A very special person to me got the worst case of lice I have ever seen, assuming from a long stay in a state psychiatric hospital. We did the whole run around with treatments, days and a week went by and we were still dealing with it, strangely the day or so after she took antibiotics for a uti they had all died, a coincidence, not sure but wow, weird! Anyways, it happens, to everyday people, to sick people, to adults, kids, professionals, and so on. It doesnt mean your dirty or gross, so hang in there. Once, my boys got it from playing in the tubes of an indoor playground (imo) because we just moved, they were not in school and we didnt know a soul at the time. Anyhow, my advise is to use a lice comb during or after showers even when they are all died and gone. It's not going to prevent them, but at least if they come back you can get a hold on it asap. Good luck!
