Obsessed with chew. Wont take more of the same kind
This has been an isssue I've recently noticed in my dog. I've given her a bully stick once which she was obsessed with and when it was too small I took it away. When I bought more of the same exact kind she doesn't care about it at all. Its been sitting in the same spot for forever . Recently I bought a pack of chews and she was so obsessed with the first she was almost done with it in the first day. I've been trying to switch it out for new ones in the same pack but she doesn't want any if them.
Does this happen with anyone else? Its becoming a problem since a lot out chews go to waste and these chews are the only thing that works in helping her dental health. Any advice? I've tried covering them in treats, soaking them in water, pretending to eat them myself, rubbing the old chew on the new one. It's really weird and I'm not sure what to do.
Sorry, I don't feed my dog chews. I give my chi baby carrots, brocolli, bananas, apples, etc. He may like those things better. Most chis are just nibblers, so I wouldn't force him to finish a whole chew in one day. He may start chewing on it later. My chi never was a chewer.

Chews are for her dental health so fruits wouldnt really help. She's not fond of them anyways. I'm also not trying to force her to finish a chew in one day. She likes the chew so much she finished it in a day. I'm just trying to redirect her chewing away from a piece that is too small and potentially harmful on to a newer bigger piece.
YES, absolutely this happened to us with bully sticks!!! Crazy over the first one, then wouldn't touch the second one for a week.
I stuck a little peanut butter on the end, and held it for Epic while she chewed for the first bit, and then she was great. Haven't had a problem since.
Epic does chew. She is some kind of Chi & Terrier mix, though.
Odie is not crazy about her bully sticks like some other chis are, but she does like them and will chew for a couple of minutes every couple days. What I've found has boosted her interest is not leaving one laying around. When she's done chewing, I put it up and the next time I give it to her like it's a treat.
my little girl tia loves her bully sticks to the point of obsession she has to finish it as quick as possible she will sit for hours chewing away ,once its almost gone she doesnt like it replaced with a full one either , but prefers a tiny half eaten sticks .were as our boy chilli shows little interest in them but ocasionaly has a chew for 5 mins then can leave them for days
