I have a new 4 month Chi, only had one week, things going great, definitely attached to me. I am going out of state for about 3 days in March, and was wondering if it would be better to take him with me (but I would have to leave in motel room in crate during day), or leave him and have someone come over to house and feed and spend some time with him. I could keep baby fence up in bathroom, with his crate inside. Thanks for info!
I would take my chi with me. Train him to pee pads so you can leave him gated in the bathroom with food and water and his pad. Try to come back at lunch to check on him and get back to him asap at night. That would be better than having someone come to your home acouple of times aday and him being alone all night. It is good for them to experiance different things while young, makes the more stable as adult dogs.

This is what I did with Toby. He's been traveling with me since he was a baby. He goes in the notes bathroom with his pad, water, blanket, and toys when I'm not there. It works well.
Are you flying or driving? When I go out of province or country, I leave Odie with my parents. However, that's only because she stays with them in their house and she's honestly probably happier there with them than she would be in a hotel room without a lot of attention. If I was only able to arrange for someone to come and visit her in our home, I would take her with me. If I were flying, I would only take her if she could travel in cabin.
