I wouldn't recommend getting a female for the purpose of breeding. Out of curiosity, why do you want to do it?

There are so many homeless dogs out there, I think people should only breed the best of the best within the breed. That means proven in the show ring, health tested (OFA Cardiac, OFA Patella and CERF eye testing), and mated with a dog that compliments it. The goal of a good breeder is to better the breed.
It's very expensive and time consuming to do it right. Please reconsider.

Breeding is unpredictable. Especially chi's because of their size and chance of complications. Two members recently went through unexpected pregnancies and the threads were SCARY! One of the mamas had her babies pass away, and the breeder we got our little guy from had several stories of heart break where they lost mama and babies! Plus the $ it costs even if things go perfectly, and the $$$ if it doesn't. If you research and decide you are prepared and it's what you want to do, Mom needs to be at least 18 months whether you get her as a little pup and raise her up or as an older dog. 18 months is when a dog's bones have fully developed. Breeding a female before then is like if a human child was to be pregnant. The hip bones can be damaged for life, and the chance of complication or mom not taking care of babies is increased. I would be less concerned with getting a a dog strictly to breed to your males, as opposed to looking for the perfect personality and temperament for your home. Chihuahua's live 18+ years so you really want to make sure you have your new family members best interest in mind. What if you get the perfect pup, raise her right, love her, wait until she is the right age, successfully get her bred, and then she has 2-3 beautiful pups and they slowly fade away? Are you prepared to watch them die with nothing you can do? Or maybe they die inside her? Or she has a complication and dies herself? Not trying to lecture or talk you out of your plans, and I wish you the best of luck!

Yes, please know what you're getting yourself into. The stories on here are scary!

Why not forget breeding and just adopt another Chi and save a life? There are so many dogs being put to sleep in shelters every day. Why add more dogs to the world when we don't even have enough homes for the ones already here?

FYI, if you plan on breeding you don't just "let the dogs spend the night together and see what happens". Dogs can be seriously injured while breeding, especially if it is their first time. I won't repeat what others posted, but you should really know what you are getting into before breeding.

well thank you for the help

and basically i want to breed one of male dogs since we have loved chis since we had these two and it wouldnt be any problem is we have puppies
my wifes side of the family is very big, and they even have a country house in which we go almost every 4 days in which dogs are free to run for acres... and our house has a back yard big enough for more chis
i only feed my dogs royal canin 8 months-adult , always give the Twistix mint/vanilla flavor trats for hygene they love them!!!
bunch of toys! what else could a happy dog ask for.

and lately alot of family and friends have been asking us for puppies, and we would love to have our dogs puppies as close as posible even with close friends

i understand it might be difficult for a female chihuahua to have puppies

but im pretty sure that with some help and the adecuate environment for them the chihuahua would have a very nice labor?
