See I have 4 of my own dogs, plus we take in, rehab and rehome rescue dogs,
so there has to be order, there have to be rules. Same rules apply to all our
dogs, no matter size. Dogs crave discipline and thrive when they have clear
direction imo. They are like children in that sense, they need someone to guide
them to help them become confident. I'm a strict mama, but I'm also a fun
mama, everything we learn we learn through fun and exercise. Skipping meals is
usually not necessary here because everyone is more than eager to eat after all
of the activity. As for the occasional picky eater we do get, it's usually solved
after a 12 hour fast.

Jaxx was like this when we first brought him home. I decided really fast I did not want to hand feed him forever. I came here and researched and was shocked and thought at first it was so cruel to take the food away if he didn't eat. In the end I tried it though. It worked like a charm. It meant Jaxx might have been hungry for a little while but I knew it was what was best for him. I knew that if I had to leave him with someone or had to go out of town that no one else would want to hand feed him so I needed him to eat from his bowl.

I think Jaxx missed one or maybe two meals but he learned really fast that if he wanted to eat he had to eat from his bowl.

When it comes to the bowl he takes a couple bites (it seems like just enough to make it through the day) and then runs away. Usually when he sees the bowl he goes upstairs into his cage
When I have tried taking his food away if he doesn't eat it, then it's like he just starves himself! I'm very strict on not giving table scraps, so he really seems to be starving himself...

Maybe I'll try the technique again because when I tried before he used to eat dry food. Cody is an enigma indeed. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!

When you try using this technique how long do you do it for until you give in?

Amberleah will do same thing. Sometimes I feed her. Others time I just wait and she will eat on her own, fast if cats go near her food.
