CJ is doing great in our family. The only complaint I have so far is that he is scared of our 19 month old. We have 6 children and he is fine with them. She is gentle and we are always with her when she pets him. For some reason he growls and tries to get away. Why is he threatened by her when she is gentle and sweet? How can we fix this? He has puppy classes starting on Jan 13th but I thought I would ask this here. He is 6 months. Thanks.
Maybe he is afraid she is going to hurt him, it is only a guess what could be going on in his mind. He could be jealous of her. Just could be so many things.
You know what,I was thinking. Since I don't know at what age you got him, could it be possible the breeder had a grandchild around your daughters age that might have hurt him? Do you know anything about his past? They don't forget things .
Olive, my 7 month old Chi does the same thing to my children. However, my children are 7 & 11 years old. She does it as a warning, but never actually bites them. My girls love the dogs so much and want to pet, kiss and pick them up all the time. Olive, gets tired of the constant doting and lets them know when she's had enough. A firm "No!" is usually enough to get her to stop.
She did have one granddaughter but she was around the age of 8. We are learning to just introduce him gently instead of expecting to be ok right away. Thank you for your responses. We have been doing a lot of research. He was better with her today. I find if things are crazy here and he is already stressed out then he nips. It has been much more calm around him now.
