We have a little girl that is 7 mths old now. We take her with us on errands, etc. on occasion but she gets sick every time. As most, she's a little anxious about being anywhere but at home but she gets nervous in the car and starts drooling, ending up with her getting sick. We even bought her one of those little car seats that hang on the headrest and she sits inside a little box, which seemed to make her a little more comfortable but still drools like crazy. My question is...should we continue trying to take her in the car hoping she will eventually get used to it or is she more likely to always get sick regardless? We have a Yorkie who LOVES to go with us and typically take him on trips with us, which we would rather her go also instead of leave her with someone but don't want to if it upsets her this much. I know the breed is typically anxious and hoping to hear from others who may have experienced the same thing...

I like Jan's ideas. Also benedryl can help with nausea if you have nothing else. I have heard of vets giving phenegan to pups, bet the vet would give her something to take for when she goes out and about. all these sick experiences probabaly compound her nervousness.....I would be curious to lnow if somehting works for her.....good luck

I would not stop the trips. The more she goes out over time most dogs will out grow their motion sickness. You could also try a little Rescue Remedy by Bach Flowers to help with the anxiety.

I have a border collie with terrible motion sickness. I think it is Gideon anxiety. He is terrified of the car. I am going to try some of these suggestions.

We take Angel out constantly. He goes to work with us, I take him on deliveries! He goes in his carrier in the back seat and you can forget he's there!

Our golden would get carsick. We just kept taking her for short rides and eventually she got used to it. ginger is supposed to help with upset tummies, so I would try a ginger snap also.

I think frequent short trips should work. Also, maybe she would be more comfortable in a carrier. Angel did not like to ride in the car while he was on a lap! He loves his carrier! He even sleeps in one at night.

I had a rescue chi, that I drove to NH from the Chicago area. She was fine during the day, but in the evening she cried and whimpered. Panted alot too. I spoke to the vet tech at camp gone to the dogs (where we went in Stowe Vt) and she suggested covering the crate. Worked like a charm. Evidently the lights of the vehicles made her uncomfortable. I'd try that first.
