Anyone with a Black Chihuahua??
I have a question for those of you who have black Chihuahua’s or may be or have experienced what I am experiencing with mine.
My oldest chi (who is now 8mo) began to lose hair on his chest. His beautiful white patch of long hair down his chest disappeared. It wasn’t coming out in patches, but it is like it just all thinned out and was gone. Then the hair down the side of his legs started to do the same thing. Since he was my first chi I didn’t know if it was just normal for chi's to have thin hair on their chest, head, and legs. Oh yah, he also has very thing hair on his head as well, like an old man.
When he was around 6 months old in November, I saw a patch of fur on his side was gone. It was red and flaky. So I immediately took him to the vet. She diagnosed him with generalized demodex mange. She gave me a pack or promeris to put on his neck every 2 weeks. Not that is matters, this was a vet i had never been to before, I had moved after i got him, and out previous vet was kinda far.
In December I got my second chi. I took her for her first shot to the vet I had previously been going to. While we were there I had her do a skin scrap on Ruffio. She said she did not see any mites, so the promeris must have killed the mites like it was supposed to.
I gave him his last dose of promeris 2 weeks before he had surgery to get neutered on Dec 21st. I hadn't given him any more promeris since he was neutered.
I started to see his hair on his legs is looking really thing again. The bottom half of his chest hair had grown back in, but up in his neck area is still really thin, as well as his head. His hair is also still not completely back where he had the spot on his side.
Is it normal for chi's, maybe especially black chi's, to have thing hair on their chest, legs, head?
Last Friday, I gave him another dose of Promeris. I only have one more treatment left. I don’t want to give him anymore promeris because I personally feel it would be too harmful to keep giving it.
If it really is mange, are there any other alternative treats that any of you have tried? Or could if be chi's have thin hair.
I can try and post pics if you need to see what im talking about
