I don't know, my Pug had 5 teeth pull, and the vet didn't dicuss any other way but to put her under , it wouldn't do any good to give them a shot to numb their mouth as they would never hold still.

When I just had my chis teeth cleaned, I stressed that I didn't want her put under & he agreed since it was just a partial cleaning, so he sedated her. Not sure if this has the same impact on their bodies as putting under because she was pretty out of it for the rest of the day.

For very mild cleanings, on a mild mannered dog, some vets can do anesthesia free teeth cleanings. Most will not though, as its so much easier to put them to sleep and then deep clean.

The problem is that the cleaning without anesthsia will not get under the gums where the real problem is.

Do you mean for a cleaning or actually having teeth pulled? I wonder if they would be able to pull a tooth if the dog was given a sedative and freezing?

Teeth out,I can't put Dottie under anesthetic as she has Ataxia so it would be dangerous for her
