Oh Bless you! Our Briscoe had been owned by a 90 yo man that had to go to an assisted living facility and he took Briscoe, then named Tiny, to the pound. The Akron dog pound is a notoriously nasty place with no regard for the animals. Thank God in his mercy, a local rescue got him, we adopted and the rest is history. We've never looked back. Briscoe will bite kids, he came to us that way. But he attached instantly to Phil. We've had him for two years now and just in the last 6 mos or so he's begun coming to sit on my lap and cuddle with me.
It's so amazing when, after so very long, you know they have finally accepted you.
Good luck! and enjoy.
