...I am struggling and just needed to share/vent. Sorry in advance that this will be so long (that is what happens when one vents and you understand, right?).
I did share this privately with a couple of members here several weeks ago.
Hubby was racing and I was home alone one evening with nothing to do. The girls were sweetly sleeping and I cannot remember what lead me to Petfinders (it may be a member here who adopted through them and mentioned them) as I had never heard of them before.
Well, for fun, I began searching chihuahuas near me and I discovered Terra. She is 3 hours away (so was Ruby). The ad spoke that she was almost full grown and less than 4 pounds. They also mentioned that she would only go to a home with very small dog experience.
Like a fool (hubby should know better than to leave me home unattended with a computer!) I inquired about her actual age and weight.
She is a tricolor as we always wanted but did not get when we fell in love with our girls. She is actually close in age and weight to my girls. Her birth date is 12/2 and back in June she was 3.7 lbs. So, she is just a few weeks younger than my youngest and she likely now weighs just a touch more than my girls. She is pure chi and she is darling!!!
They asked about us and then really, really encouraged us to consider her. We did and decided that it was not the best idea for our lifestyle. We both work full time and in our free time we take the girls with us to lots of car/racing events and the like. Two seems right for us since we each can carry/manage one. I would not want to have to remember who gets to go this time and leaving someone home.
Financially, we could provide for her nutrition, medical care and any other issues and of course, we are LOADED with love and good care! They indicated if she was not a fit with our girls that they would come get her immediately. They also offered that we could arrange (and pay for) any medical testing we wished before bringing her home. The details would be provided directly to us. She has had all shots and has been spayed.
Well, I checked a few days ago and she is STILL available!! I emailed (the lady who has her gave me her personal email) to ask if it was true and it was. It broke my heart. I asked if I could send some things for her and she gladly accepted. I sent a bag of Ziwipeak that they will give her as snacks. I also had 3 coats (all given to us) and one still had the tags on and was a bit big for the girls (and only one of mine is for clothes and neither has ever worn a coat anyway) so I sent that as well.
I hate it that she was a puppy mill rescue at just 2-3 months and now she will turn 8 months old in a couple of days and is still in a rescue home but not her forever home. When I mentioned this to my husband today he looked at me and said, "we better go get her, then." If things were different, we would go get her. I just needed to share my heart with people who would understand better than my real life friends and family. Thank you for indulging me.
Anyway, here are pics of her when she was younger and pics from last month (I told you that she was cute!):
