I'm thinking if I should join the CCRT. It's the canadian chihuahua rescue transport.

They are based in ontario, Canada, but i did ask if they need help in BC. Apparently they said in BC there is only one volunteer to coordinate adoptions, no other volunteers. They just dun have the people to run any events.

In BC there is another rescue group called the BC Chihuahua Rescue. They are very well established already and often have fundraising events.

Anyone here able to share their experience as a volunteer? I won't be able to foster right now with my new pup... but was thinking of helping with anything like coordinating adoptions, home visits, website.... etc.

Would it make more sense for me to go for CCRT or the BC CHihuauha Rescue?

i'm a foster mom with the ccrt as far as a charity goes it's ok. They do alot of good in my area and really do care about the dogs they are not corrupt like other rescues tend to get so that is a huge bonus.

Too be honest tho if u can't be a foster i'm not sure what u could do since there wouldn't really be any events in BC and all the rest seem to be focused in the ottawa area. That being said because of that u wouldn't have much demand which could mean u could be a member of both, I really don't think ccrt will ask much if anything of you

I volunteer with my local Humane Society. It is now a no kill shelter I volunteer in the shelter with the dogs and cats, and in the vet clinic area sterilizing the surgical tools and I get to watch some spay and neuter surgeries. And I also help run the off site adoptions at various places in town on the weekends. Its so rewarding to think that I even have a small part in helping animals and brightening up their day in any way I possibly can. I love every moment of it. Volunteers are ALWAYS needed and so I surely encourage everyone to volunteer. And also donate, even if you can't give money, many shelters need blankets, towels, newspapers, dog bowls, leashes, and even dog and cat treats. When you get a new bed spread, donate your old one. Things like that really make a big difference. And many shelters are not city funded. So perhaps doing a fundraiser would be great too my mother sells chocolate bars at work for 1 dollar each and gives the profit to the humane society. I have never fostered as my circumstances do not allow it. But perhaps in the future I can, I would love to!

I volunteer for the British Chihuahua Club Rescue and Long Coat Club but really if anything comes up in the area I go and pick them up then co-ordinate with the secretaries to rehome them. It is hard and can be quite emotional when you have to take them away from their homes especially if they old owner is crying etc.
Not always easy.
