After advise from some on the forum and looking into it myself, I followed suit of some other people on 'preloved' and advertised a rescue home available.

I've just had this message:

My ad: Hello. We are the owner of 5 Chihuahuas and are experienced with the breed. We are looking to help out another little one this year. If you know of a female chihuahua who needs a good home, get in touch. They will have a lifetime of happiness.

Message: You should just say that you are wanting to breed for cheap! 5 star dig owners I don't think so! Also what experience do you need to have chihuahuas? They are the easiest breed ever?

My reply: Sorry? This is a bizarre message. I wouldn't even dream of breeding. My 3 boys and 2 girls are all fixed. I am looking for a rescue as I am against breeding. My two girls are rescues.

And, although I do not feel I need to justify myself to you, I am very particular about who looks after my chis and I believe that if I were ever in the sad situation of having to give them up I would want to ensure that they went to someone with experience in dealing with this small breed.

Please do go waste your time elsewhere. I can't imagine having enough time in the day to send pointless messages to those that you do not even know.

Second message: You need to be reported.

Me: I do believe you do for abusing me. I'm quite happy for you to come and visit my home, with an RSPCA inspector to assess the situation. They are treated like kings, not accessories and there is certainly no breeding occurring. The offer is there.

Then I blocked her.

I give up trying to be nice. People can be so cruel.

When you communicate with people via Internet you so often discover trolls and outright crazies. At least this was not a Nigerian Prince looking for help receiving his $5,000,000 inheritance. Sorry you were subjected to abuse.

I think that chihuahua-people is almost100% free of the nutcases. Of course, many of you here post so frequently that it is obvious from continued reading that you are decent and honorable people.

Remain a cynic about the outside world.

Thanks Joe, but you don't get to see the ones that don't make it through moderation:D

OP, don't worry, one crank will always be out there to wind people up - I hope you get a wonderful little female to add to your crew!

Some people can just be down right mean. I don't know where you are located, I am in the US. I am on facebook, you can find all kinds of dog rescues there that are always looking for fosters or people to adopt. For some reason here in the US there always seem to be a lot of chi's in the shelters. We recently adopted from a foster that was connected with a rescue group. From the way this person spoke to you, they have never nor will they ever be connected with any kind of rescue, or really care about an animal for that matter. Good luck helping out a new fur baby, sounds like they will be lucky to find their forever home with you.

I can't believe some people's nerve. If I were to read something and have negative thoughts I would never in a million years voice my opinions to a total stranger about something which is blatantly none of my business. You were not in the wrong here, sounds like someone's jealous to me, some people just can't bear other people having what they would like or being happy. Carry on the good work and stuff em!

Thanks for all for your support. It's really lovely. Think I'll take it down and keep my eyes and ears open. It's not like I'm desperate for another dog. I just wanted to put myself out there in case someone needed help.

I guess I was just so shocked that someone would go out of their way to send a message like that. <<<naive>>>

That's funny, but very, very sad! I never thought people could look at me with my tribe of x 4 (all fixed) and think, "There goes a backyard, dodgy breeder!"

Gawd, I couldn't think of anything worse than breeding - I don't do terror & anxiety very well, and as for blood & guts, I leave that to surgeons to deal with.
