We recently started training Bryco to walk on a show lead...they are soooo thin though...is there any way I can be sure I'm not hurting him with it? I also just ordered a "kindness" one, that has a thin strip at the front to make training easier, but those aren't used in shows, I have to use the lil teensie ones.

Ive used one on Mimi a few times, she obviously doesnt like it! But she's never been hurt by one as long as it isnt too tight and he isnt in obvious distress it wouldnt worry me as long as he's happy! Good Luck

Haha! He doesn't seem happy about it though, he gives the stink eye. We're working on it though. We'll get there eventually I think, he's learning to free stack really well!

Does anyone in the US know...does it matter what colour lead you use at an actual show? They sell them in every color possible hahaha and so far I have a gold, a light teal, a pink and a dark blue. All very fun, and really you can't see the colours at all unless you're right up on them, but...is there a rule for shows, like,...it must be black or white or anything?

Thats what I don't know...I thought I'd heard it matters, but it could have just been someone gabbing, which is why I ask. I prefer to use colors. I am not "serious" at this point lol, just a novice learning, so thus colors are fun! But obv will not use that in the ring if its not allowed. I've tried googling it but the answers aren't very clear.

colors of practice don't matter but I have "heard" best to use a color that is closetest to the color of your pup in the ring - so the judge isn't looking at the lead more of the pup and blends in with the fur. lead is put around neck in the highest place right below (chin) and between ears. let him run around with it before training, also it helps to take small steps with food. Cali is getting older and has decided she knows better than me LOL. Make it fun for him (always heard this but not the easiest either)

I dont know if there are any rules i think it looks better if you have a lead the same colour or one that compliments ur dog ... that said i use a bright blue one for open and champ shows for Bentley ... i do have one that is a that matches him perfectly but because he has a white neck it stands out almost as much as the blue one which is why i use the blue one and u cant see it that much under his coat

Hmmm...good to know! The leads are soooo thin it seems like colour wouldn't matter much but I guess it makes sense that having one not distracting from the dog is reasonable.
