Noses...hmmm. Well, the standard states "Nose – Self-colored in blond types, or black. In moles, blues, and chocolates, they are self-colored. In blond types, pink noses permissible."

Bryco's nose is a chocolate/pinkish/black color. It appears blackish, but is not SUPER black, and the pigmentation is not 100% solid. Just was wondering if that is going to be considered a serious fault in the ring/hurt his chances? I tried to take a picture but it doesn't capture in photographs, so I can't show you exactly what I mean...but hopefully someone knows what I am talking about?

It won't affect him much I shouldn't think, some judged prefer dark pigmentation and some it doesn't bother at all. Lolly has a lighter stripe down her nose.

Okay. I also have read that people "marker" their dogs noses but that its cheating...? I don't plan to do that nor do I know how LOL, but DO people do this often?

One breeder I talked to told me I *should* do it, but I don't want to cheat...

I know people do that. Shoot, I know of people who dyed their dogs (standard poodles) so that they would be inky black. What a bunch of hogwash in my opinion.

If Bryco has lighter pigment, then so be it. That is how he is. He should win on his own merit. I think you also have to consider future generations.... if people know that a dog has lighter pigment, for example, they will choose a bitch that has dark dark pigment in order to offset the fault. It's all about improving on each generation.

You are not allowed to alter the dog in any way, you will get kicked out and might get ban from showing its really not worth it. Plus you don't want to give the poor pup ink poisoning lol

Yeah...I've read in quite a few show books about it being done too?? It's always so non-descript though, like it sounds as if its kinda a common thing to do but also that its against the rules! Yet the breeder I talked to said he's been told by a judge his dog would have won had he markered the nose? So yeah. I have no intention of doing it but I am of course curious about it? I've also read they powder white dogs like Bichons so they are whiter?? And some will even "dye" a black dog so it is blacker!
