I'm just sitting here reading through my british chihuahua club chronicles that gets published every year. There were 4 long coat dogs and 3 long coat bitches and 2 smooth dog and 3 smooth bitches were made up to champion last year that's only 12 in both breeds from what I can tell.
My question is how many champions were made up in the us or canada last year and what do you need to become a champion over there? I know its a far larger place with a ton more shows.

The UK is one of the hardest places in the world to become a champion, over here to become a champion you have to beat the champions.
(I more than anyone knows how hard that is with Brad winning 2 CC's and 7 RCC's!!! LOL)

Oh kristi explained it to me it's done on a points system so you get points if you get places and then need majors but I forgot what that is and how u get it!!! No clue

You need 15 points to make a champion.

The country is split into divisions based on the # of chihuahuas in that chunk of the country, and based on that amount, you then have to beat certain #'s of dogs to win 1, 2, 3 or more points. 3 or more points is considered a major.

Points start being given at winner's dog/winner's bitch, best of breed, best in class, etc. We don't get points at all if we get second or third.

You need 2 major wins under 2 different judges and wins under at least 3 different judges to get a major, but points must total 15 or more points no matter what, so most people try to finish their dog with 3 major wins of 4 points or so, and get a few side points at smaller shows. Its unlikely someone will finish a dog with only 2 majors,because that's less than 1/2 the points needed for a championship, and it would get kinda expensive to finish it. To get a 4 or 5 point major in any division it means you are beating at least 10-12 other dogs.

I would not say it is easier to win a championship over here, although I bet our views will disagree. We do have have more dogs, and more shows, and more chances to win, so in that sense, yes, it is easier to win.

Q. How many points do I need to earn a Conformation Championship title?
A. Conformation championship points are awarded at Conformation Shows. To become a Conformation Champion, your dog must earn at least 10 points under at least three different judges and have earned at least one 2-point win, either at the breed or group level. Your dog must also be individually registered with the CKC or have an Event Registration Number.

And both AKC and CKC(canada) clubs now have Grand Champion.

in the US there are more then one kennel club that has shows but AKC is the most popular and respected. you also compete against champions here as well.
