is there a link here on showing how to get your pup used to being handled for showing. the next ringcraft class available here in dublin is january.i booking cody in, just incase he is show potential, hes looking good so far imo.if hes not we get to have some fun.

No link but just get as many people to go over him as possible. Start teaching him to free stack on the floor ( lotus stands everytime I have food) and stack him on the table, start walking him on a show lead and socialise him majorly!!

I hated our ring craft so did lotus it was just awful

Lol start stacking him daily on a table lotus isn't a fan of it shuts her eyes and goes to sleep

Sarah - Roxy does exactly the same - she falls as sleep on the table

Amanda - there is a x-mas show on National Show Center on the 12th of December (next weekend), you cold go and have a look around, talk to chihuahua people there, ask them some advice, I am sure they'll be happy to help (after they have been in the ring). You could get him a show lead there as well, to get him used to walking in that as soon as possible. I have one spare one at home, if you can't find any. And then there is another show at 27th of December (same place), take the puppy with you if you can, he has to get used to the noise and the hall's surface.

Feed him on the table when you can, he has to get comfortable on the higher surface. Always make the show training fun, he should enjoy it
Take him places very busy and loud - traffic, primary schools, shops (pet shops). I walked Roxy on the shelf's in pet shops. Get him use to different people checking his teeth and touching him all over.

Glad it's not just her then she hates it I don't think shed ever shoe for me unless I walked in the ring with a plate of food I was eating but imagine hahahahaha how funny!!

Amanda if you want a fancy lead there's some nice ones on eBay! I never had a problem teaching lotus to walk or stand or anything she just will
Not do it in public or places she doesn't know!! Boys seem more showey than girls from what I've seen and people I've spoken too (maybe it's all that testosterone) the only thing I will say is remember he has to be intact and as you have his mum there it could e very hard work when she goes into season or you could spay bianca and get a little typey girl to show too l

If you bough him from a show breeder then a lot of the socialisation/stacking training would have been started from an early age. Normally from about 6/7 weeks I stack on a small stool or my knee - just for a couple of seconds each day or so, along with looking at their teeth. Don't worry if he doesn't like teeth as he could be teething so they will be a bit sore but if he lets you in tell him he's a good boy.

Training classes are a good idea and if yours doesn't like it - don't force him as it could put him off totally. If you go to a show - you are not supposed to take your dog with you so you would have to leave him at home. Like what firefox has said - speak to some of the chi exhibitors - not sure who would be there though (Marie Thorpe?)

A smooth coat can be shown on a thicker lead than a long coat - shoe string ones are the best for longs. Can be hard to get hold of sometimes

aiga if the snow is gone i will go next week, but you what the weather can be like around there. def going to the 27th tho, cant bring him anywhere yet hasnt had all his vacs. goes on wednesday. thanks for the offer.
sarah im talking to my vet on wednesday about bianca, spay or injection, dont know if i will do it again, the whole thing was a great experience but finding the best owners for my pups was an ordeal in my opinion, not everyone was good enough. i hope this does not come accross wrong. but most people that rang first hadnt a clue about chis.
we have one pup left to go to a new home but he will be a pet only as one of his hoohas has not dropped yet. family are lining up on hubbys side, but they too like the idea of having a little chihuahua around, but what happens when the novelty wears off.
i dont know, i think im too fussy and protective.
jessan, i bred him my self, and he is looking good so far. i put him up on a counter and he will sit now but just wants to play when i want him to stack. i will have to get firmer.
