Hi everyone,

About ten years ago when I was thirteen-ish I used to show my mums westies for her and used to thoroughly enjoy it! I sort of thought I'd quite like to have a go at showing Chi's if Vincey is to standard. Its so difficult as a newbie to the breed to simply read the breed standard and apply it to the dog, reading the KC breed standard he sounds perfect but of course we all know that without experience you can't really tell!
I've been to some champ shows recently to watch the classes and get some info but haven't been too successful on the info! I wondered if any of you who show could help me out at all? point me in the right direction for an invaluable book or website?
Also I am aware that there is a KC accredited breeder/show breeder relatively close to me, do you guys think it would be cheeky to call and ask just to talk to them about showing and maybe take Vincey down so they could have a look at him? As I am new to the chi world I'm not to sure if this would be acceptable don't want to be treading on any toes already!!

I think the best books I've found are just on Amazon or whatever, and, there isn't a specific one I'd recommend over another, just search for "Beginner Dog Show Books" or something along those lines. I didn't have anyone to show me the ropes at all and we've figured out the show bit OK. Breeding I will definitely need a good mentor, but for the show stuff, esp. since you've done it as a kid, I bet it will all come back to you...its really quite easy

i dont really have any books id recommend i did get quite a few before i got my first show dog but they were very basic and its probably nothing you dont already know if you have done some showing, i learnt much more from talking to other exhibitors and from going to ringcraft, are u going to Crufts?

Thanks for the advice flippedstars, I hope it comes back to me! and i should learn as i go with regards to the chihuahua as a breed and what the standard is. I really hope Vincey is up to par!

Definately the best thing to do - go to shows, watch from start to finish and ask some questions. Don't get me wrong, not everyone is helpful but most are. Come and look me out - I LOVE chatting LOL!!! Just ask Louise! ha ha...Look for Parkbow She Devil and Parkbow Dare Devil - only taking two this year.

If someone is stood holding a dog at ring side - its probably that they are ready to go in the next class so might not have lots of time to chat at that precise moment but can afterwards.
