Hey everyone. My 15 week old chi pup is constantly trying to bite, sometimes she does it gently and sometimes it actually hurts! When she's on the floor and I try walking she will bite my ankles. She has plenty of teething and stuffed animal toys, when she nips at me I try to give her a toy and she will either ignore it or grab it for a moment and go right back to trying to attack me. This happens several times a day and I don't know how to get her to stop! She bites my larger dogs lips and pulls on them as well. I don't know if it's a teething thing or what. I really want to nip this habit before she gets bigger and her bites really start to hurt! Also, when I try taking something from her like something she shouldn't be chewing on she will start to growl and begin a game of tug-o-war. I am trying to teach the leave it command but my methods don't seem to be working. Any suggestions for the above issues?
She's only 15 weeks, so she is definitely teething & hasn't learned it hurts yet. Just say ouch when she does it & no firmly. She'll get the idea, but be patient. She's still a baby.
I might be tempted to spray "Bitter Apple" on my ankles! Tastes horrid. Most dogs hate it. When she goes to bite say "No" just before she gets skin. Might work.

When she does it, respond just as SHE would if something hurt; yelp loudly; (some dogs need to hear a loud shriek before making the correlation) and turn your back to them. Since chihuahuas catch on so quickly, it won't take her long to figure out that you only give her attention when she's being gentle; and that you turn away and ignore her when she gets too rough. Lots of good advice given already. Luckily for me, Onyx was never much of a biter when she was a puppy. She simply enjoyed chewing her toys, my cable cord, my lap top charger, my cell phone, and pens
If only I could get this behavior out of my 17 week old kitten. The little.... bugger does nothing but bite. It's getting old. Even Onyx is getting pissed.
