I plan on googling it, but I've found that I get much better, more accurate answers here.
At what age can we start teaching them to walk on a leash? Our baby is only 17 weeks, but I'm not sure. I put her on the leash outside to go potty and she'll go, but only if she really has to. She doesn't even like walking from room to room with me, she'll just sit there for a while expecting me to carry her. We just got her a few days ago, so I know she's still adjusting. I think her previous owners carried her around the house, room to room. They free fed her and we are for the first few days, but she already looks a bit more fit from me not carrying her around 24/7.

So at what age can they walk on a leash? Does anyone have any good links to tranining them to walk on it?

I started training Leo to walk on harness and ride in his carseat at 12 weeks so he could adjust quickly and he did. After our first baby walk, he was a pro!! And he took to his carseat immediately too.

I don't think there is a set age it is more when they are trained to do so. Some dogs have no problem walking on a leash while others have to be trained to do so.

I would start off by getting them used to wearing a harness in the house when you can supervise so they are used to the feel of the harness. After that I would attach a lead to their harness and let them get used to it inside (again when you can supervise)

Oh good! I was afraid she was still too young, I've never had such a tiny dog before. I'll get a harness in two days and start.

That sounds good! Let your baby wear it around the house to get used to the feel of it, also be careful so she doesn't chew it! One of our members invested in a beautiful buddy belt and her baby chewed right through it when she wasn't looking!

It took a couple tries for KC to get used to her leash, she's still not fully likin the idea of bein guided though lol! I didn't even keep it on her at home. Just went full out outside with her and she loves goin out the park now. I only took her on the ground in public when she got all her shots

Oh, I saw that post! I felt for her. Leila chewed up a cheap harness and I was devistated, lol.
We just got her microchipped so we can't start wearing the harness and leash training for a few more days
Oh well, at least I know she's safe.

Ike is 18 week or 4 months + , he has been walking on a leash for a couple of weeks now, started him out just wearing his harness, then added the leash. But we have a fenced in yard, I stay with him and my pug the whole time they are out side. But he has been going on walks with us for about a week now.
