Default New diet needed..new problem! Aaaggh!

Today I went to the doctor for a check up and a weigh in and although I have lost almost 13lbs, she told me that my blood sugar is too high. Not yet diabetes but it will go that route if I dont do something about it! I am SO frustrated as I have been such a good girl and lost weight well. So now I am on a diet to lower my glucose...definately no chocolate now
Does anyone here have blood sugar problems..I would appreciate any tips, as I have such a sweet tooth and dont know how I am going to resist!
I have been given a month to try to lower the glucose without meds...I really want to succeed to do it and not be reliant on meds all my life...help!

my dad is diabetic and so eats no sugar... he uses that sugar substitue in his coffee. you need to check pre packed food as you'll be amazed what has sugar in it... i dont know if you have wagon wheels over there... the ones in england arent made from real chocolate and have virtually no sugar in them. i know eating 3 balanced meals a day helps regulate blood sugar. i know you're not diabetic but maybe checking out a few diabetic websites may give you a few tips as how to lower it through diet.

Well my hubby and father and father-in-law are all diabetic so I probably know a lot more than I want to. Something like the Atkins diet really is good, carbs tend to be almost worse for blood sugars than sweets. Cut way back on all starches, potatoes, pastas, rice and beans. Watch high sugar fruits like plums and peaches and read labels. Even if it's low in sugar if it's high in carbs it's going to raise your blood sugar. Did she do a fasting glucose test? That's the most accurate. If she just checked your blood sugar without fasting it could simply have been elevated from what you had eaten.

I agree with Tinker. What you've eaten even the day before can affect it really strongly. I remember, many years ago I made a sugar test and it showed really high. The day before I ate quite a lot of grapes, they have a lot of sugar! So, few days later it was back to an average, they said the first result swere not accuarte because of the grapes. Now I even have it lower that it should be, as I said before. So, maybe you can repeat the test after a while...

I just happened to think. Pick up a glucose monitor at a local pharmacy (get the one with the cheapest test strips since they work every bit as well) and track it yourself for a few days, then you won't have to worry about it for a month before you know anything.
