Navel Piercing
Does anyone have their navel pierced? After a girl in my English class got hers done, I fell in love with it and really want to get mine done.
I did a lot of research online, especially to see how to care for it while it's healing and everything.
I'm 18 years old so I can get it done without parental consent...
I don't want to ask my mom because if she says "no" I wouldn't go against her wishes. She would be more mad if she said no and I got it done.
So I'm just going to get it done and show her one day...

I got mine done about 6 or 7 years ago now, if you do get it done just make sure you keep it clean until it has healed up properly, it may look properly healed from the outside but the healing process takes quite a few weeks, i used to use salt water a couple of times a day especially if you take baths instead of showering.

I have mine pierced I had it done when I was 18, because my mom would not let me get it done until I could do it "on my own." I didn't tell my mom until after I had it done, but there was nothing that she could do about it.
It is really easy to care for, especially now! It didn't hurt as bad as I had thought it would either.

i got mine when i was 14! I love it, it didnt even hurt when i got it done. my mom let me get it done so i didnt have to sneak but it is easy to take care of, i used benzaclin (sp?) from the pharmacy and it healed really quickly and nicely.

I got mine when I was 15, and again when I was 22 because I let it grow over. Only advice I have is get a barbell instead of a hoop, because a hoop can make it heal crooked, and the only advantage is it's easier to clean ... but if you know how to clean it then that doesn't matter. Don't take it out before 6 months ... don't. No matter how much you think it's healed, it hasn't, until then. My friend was convinced hers was healed after three months, I told her it wasn't, even though it felt and looked like it, but she wanted to change it anyway into a cuter one, and it got badly infected. Six months *nods* Also, a little shot glass is very useful for salt water soaks ^_^

Thanks guys!! I've read over and over again that salt water soaks are the way to go. And antibacterial soap.
I'm hoping to get it some time this week- I'm so excited!! (and just a little bit nervous!)
I'll have to tell my mom before we go to Mexico in July. I don't want to surprise her with it when we're there and potentially ruin the trip haha. I figure she can't be too mad because it's discreet. It's not like I got my lip or tongue pierced, etc.

i say go for it, if you really want it!
i got mine done when i was 13 my mum took me to get it done after i begged her but we didnt tell my dad for a while lol.
i'd had it done about five years and was out one day and the bar must have come unscrewed and fell out...well it healed up within an hour! so about a year later i had it done again! this time it went septic and i had to take it out. ive got a pretty bad scar where it was but i dont regret havin it done.

I've had mine done twice, first time it didnt go so great and the piercing actually split as it grew out ( I found out I have a zinc allergy so I have to use a PTFE bar in initial piercings) so ended up with a pretty icky scar so I got it redone again recently and so far so good, but it can take up to a year to heal up and is probably one of the most awkward piercings for getting infected mainly due to where it is with bending, clothing rubbing etc. But I say go for it always looks good in the summer
EDIT: I just wanted to add that as said above "shot glass" salt soaks are the best way to go as it really helps clean it out, and slightly off topic but still on piercings I literally saved my friends neck "infected neck piercing" with making her use a shot glass of hot salt water on it several times, as the piercer only told her to bathe it not soak it.
