Question "Foster" Dogs

Anyway,
There's this cute little chihuaua on petfinder in my state. I really want to adopt but i have two things keeping me from it:
a.) Parents
b.) Foster Care.

I find it more difficult to adopt a dog out from Foster care (instead of shelters) due to people being over protective. It just seems that they don't want to adopt out the dogs that they foster.

whats your opinion on foster dogs?

The fosters don't want to adopt them out? I assume you mean you feel that they're strict on who they'll adopt to? Both Pip and Roo are rescues so I've been through the process. Rescue's are quite strict, yes, but it's for a good reason. They want to make sure it's the best fit for the dog so it's a permanent home. You can't fault them for that. Also, since the dog is living in the foster's home they spend a lot of time with them and understand their personalities and what home will be the best choice for them. I wouldn't let it discourage you from trying.

I have seen several I would love to adopt, but I do not qualify for several reasons: I do not OVER vaccinate, and I have unaltered dogs in my home. When my little Melody passed away last fall I didnt decide to get another chihuahua til about 2 mo ago. I started looking at puppies, adults, rescues. I found one just like my lil Melody that was 8 yrs old. I even emailed them and was told that vaccinating only every 3 yrs would be acceptable. But I dont do that. I did find one here in our local shelter that was 12 yrs old, and I did adopt him with no questions asked because I also foster for this shelter! I have been fostering for the shelter off and on for 15 yrs.
I would love to give the older homeless chi's a home, but sadly, they wont let me have them, so I just have to wait til another comes along locally.

Private rescues (like the ones that use fosters) do a great thing for a lot of dogs, but for the most part I find them to be a little crazy. I even volunteered for one a lot and still help them out on occasionally, so I am not coming out of nowhere.

I personally stay away from adopting from private rescues for a few reasons-

1- as above, I work with my vet for a very minimalist vaccine schedule. Because my adult dogs are only ever vaccinated once against parvo I will never qualify with many rescues (not the case for the rescue I work with, but is the case with most others).
2- Every private rescue I have been with requires you to return the dog to them if you ever can't keep them. IF I DIE I want my dogs to be cared for by the people I have deemed appropriate in my will. I do have a will, and a plan for my dogs if I die and I would not trust some of these crazy rescue people with my pets if I die. Many people say this is impossible to enforce, but most rescues keep the dog micro chipped to them. If I die and my parents take my dogs, if one ever were lost that was from a private rescue, it would be returned to the rescue, not put where I wanted them to go.

Maybe I am a control freak, but my dogs will always come from the pound. But on a final note- private rescues save a lot of lives of dogs that would never otherwise be adopted, they do a great thing, but for the most part I think they need to look at some of their adoption practices.
