Default Urghhhh Unemployment question.

After getting laid off my job after 25+ years of working there. I finally got on unemoloyment ( that was a horrible experience) I would so rather be working. I am in Washington State. They tell us we have to do 3 job searches a week. I know several places I would like to work having been in this field so long. But I was told I can not call the employers to see if the are hiring I actually have to go in and leave a resume. I am laid off so I really don't want to drive alll over and waste my gas. I have heard conflicting stories on this. Just wanted to know if anyone had this experience? I find it very stressful and depressing. I really don't even like to leave the house much any more. Thanks for taking the time to red my post. I spend hours on line searching and find nothing since I also have to apply in my field. There are alot of jobs but not much in my field.
Kay

I don't know how strict they are where you live.
When hubby was on unemployment he simply looked online and
wrote down a few work places, to show them that he's looking,
he never had to actually get out of the house and search.
(he couldn't at the time, I was very ill)

Do you actually want to find a job asap? Or do you just want
to receive your unemployment payments until they wear out?

certainly you can look at anything you are qualified for--not just "in your field". try to
think beyond your previous job and/or your dream job. just get those contacts in.
here's hoping this week goes better

I would think you could apply online and save copies of the application. Also [put out a resume on a search engine and save copies of the contacts, too. That should be sufficient. I guess it depends on the field you're in but most things are handled electronically now, even retail. Hang in there.

Kay -- I did some reading about Washington State Requirements for Unemployment.
On the Job Search Log, it says: "If you apply online or respond to a newspaper ad,
please attach a copy of the confirmation notice or ad if available."

So, you could use Careerlink.com and for each job listing you answer with your resume,
you will get a confirmation number. Just print that out

Thank you for all the replys. Terese Thank you for taking the time to look that up. They also say I have to apply for full time jobs and I have only worked part time for the past 5years and only want to work part time. This is just so new to me I guess. I feel like they are right there breathing down my neck all the time. They say "suitable" jobs are jobs in my field. So if I apply out of my field will they not qualify? I find this so stressful. I would love to take some time off but can not enjoy it anyway so I might as go back to work but don't want to get a crappy that I don't want. Everybody says it is so easy but I am not finding it to be. I do have a resume (Thanks to help from Jan) that I can forward to any jobs.
