We are going on a holiday to Dubai in a week and I have a LOT of mixed feelings about this even though theoretically, I should be happy and relieved that I get to relax after a day in, day out stressful job.
I wish I could take them with me, but the flight is around 7hrs, we are only going for 1 week and probably won't be in dog friendly places much and they maybe even need to go to quarantine once we get back??!!
And I can't cancel the hols because we are going to see my mum after 3 years there.
So we have to leave them I am afraid.......

But here's my problem

1. It is going to be Gucci's birthday and I will not be here
I am SO SAD! I know some of you might think I am crazy, but I really love my dogs and their birthdays feel more important to me than my own
I always like to give them that extra bit of attention, treats, and love on their birthday.

2. I have NEVER been on a holiday without the dogs and have never been away from them for more than a few hours. (I even come home during my lunch break just to see them etc.)
I feel so nervous.....

3. My friend is taking care of them while we are gone. She is staying at our place because I didn't want them to have a change of environment without me being there.
BUT
what if something goes wrong? if something happens to them and I am not there? If my friend forgets or decides not to take good care of them?

I am leaving her with a vet number, money, my emergency number and a list of my dog's routines, and she is a yorkie owner, but I still don't feel at ease

aww, you sound just like me. i used to do alot of traveling before i got the dogs. i'd go on Cruises, visit my parents in the Caribbean. love, love, loved to travel !!! Now i wont go anywere unless i can bring the dogs.
you are so lucky you have a freind that will stay at your house with your dogs. is she taking her yorkie to your house also. do your dogs get along with the yorkie?
will you be able to call your freind while your away? that might make you feel better if you can talk to to her just to be assured everything is going good.

Cosmo's first birthday I was in the hospital having spinal surgery. He was with my parents. As long as the babies are familiar with your friend they should be fine. My fur babies BD's are out to the park and a stop for ice cream!

I was on my honeymoon on Odie's first birthday. She was staying with my parents though, and I completely trust them as they love her just as much as I do. When she was a puppy and would stay there for the day, I gave them a really anal list of do's and don'ts, so they're used to me. haha

Can she email you pics and give you little updates? It might help to ease your mind. You don't want your friend to think you don't trust her, but maybe you could let her know how nervous you are. She has a dog, and maybe she's left hers with someone else and knows how you feel.

I'm sorry, I know it's hard but it sounds like you have everything
covered and they will be in good hands and you can celebrate
Gucci's b-day when you get back.

Sounds like you got all covered while your away. Maybe check in daily for updates or skype so you can how well they are doing

I know, two friends offered to stay with the dogs, so I had a choice LOL I went with the one who has a dog herself on the basis that she knows more about dogs.
I will call her while I am away, but I don't know how often it will be. I am just petrified that something bad will happen while I am out enjoying myself and no one will be there for the chis

I know its silly and he probably won't even realize its his birthday, but it just makes me feel horrible (I guess I am a tad nuts)
My guilty conscience is going to haunt me
But I will make it up to him when I get back, that is a great idea

I know, hopefully they will be ok, its just that they always run out the door if someone leaves it open and they ONLY come back if I call their name. They pretty much ignore every one else's commands :S
and sometimes Prada can be quite mean to Coco C. and you have to stop them before the situation escalates (although it hasn't happened much recently, Prada can be quite dominating with Coco)

Thats the thing, I really want to trust my friend, but I just can't get over it!
She is much more laid back than I am. I know she will get all the basic things right, what I am scared of is how she will react if God forbid something unexpected and bad happens
