In a little bit more than 2 weeks my brother in law turns 18, and we are all going to the casino (that's what they do here for the 18th bday, usually)
The dress code says "neat attire", men have to wear jackets, as for women there is no real guideline.

My husband will wear a tux or a very nice suit (easier for men to look good, if you ask me) but I am very concern about my outfit, I was thinking about a nice, simple, one tone long dress. Its strapless made of chiffon, the color is a bit difficult to explain, kind of a light Puce.

If I would be anywhere else in Europe I wouldn't have doubts BUT in Austria "fashion" is a completely different thing, women don't usually (or ever) use things like tights, dresses and specially high heels, those are practically nonexistent! Most of the time I am overdress even if I only wear a simple dress with heels it doesn't feel good to have all judging eyes on me, but to be honest I would feel good going to a wedding with a tank top and chinos (true story, I saw this woman with my own eyes going to a wedding dress like that) and that's very normal here in Vienna.

So my question is: do you think is ok to wear this long SIMPLE dress or should I look for something else?

I can't really comment on Austria but that would be perfect attire for a Casino here. If your husband is wearing a tux then you need something nice to match and if it's simple I wouldn't say it was going over the top. Sounds lovely to me anyway

Overdressed, in my opinion is better than being underdressed. A nice simple dress will look nice especially if your husband is wearing something more "formal". Showing up in a tank top and chinos while you are with someone daper in a suit would be out of balance, no matter how the women dress there. I would have thought that in Austria it would be more "fancy".. I guess that is only in the movies!

Also hairstyle and jewlery plays a role...you can keep it simple so you won't feel out of place.

Where I live (Greece) anything goes. Usually people will look nice at weddings etc but there are also people who turn up in stretch pants and flip flops...whatever makes you feel nice

Anna, everyone here is a fashion disaster, I am a fashion stylist, studied and worked in Milan here I can't find any job, I am reconsidering my whole career because of this.

My husband (austrian) says that here women want only comfort and warm stuff, so different than in Milan!
They only dress-up for balls, but people that go there are only a few.

I can see how that would be frustrating. You can be comfortable and look nice at the same time. Maybe you should not consider changing careers but changing the way the women think about dressing there..like create a web page etc...

here they go to weddings like that! I can't believe it!
I had to ASK people to dress nice for mine, but it was for nothing.

That's what I think, I have never felt really cold dressing like I do.
I have try to create a webpage a blog a fb page, nothing works with Austrians
I even opened my own image consulting business hahaha NOTHING!
