How old do you have to be to vote over there? I voted last time here but for us it's a case of there's only two parties who ever get elected and they're both as bad as each other. No one ever does what they say they're going to do so it's all guess work any way. I don't suppose it works quite the same way in the US. Are you guys in Australia giving up the Queen soon?

You have to be 18 to vote here. We also have a two party system. They both have their faults. It seems to work very similar to the UK.

Ashley, does your vote count in North Carolina or Florida? Since I live in Alabama, it's a lot harder to feel motivated to vote for president because our state will definitely be red at the end of the day. So, if you vote that way here it doesn't really do anything and if you vote the other way it doesn't really do anything either. I wish it was based on the popular vote, so that people who don't live in swing states could feel like they actually have a voice. But it's still a privilege that we have here that we should all particulate in.

We sat down with our daughter (first time voter) and explained it all to her, explained the initiatives and referendums with her and let her make her own decisions. A very important election for sure.
