Unhappy Stress

I have trouble dealing w/ stress, its probably closer to anxiety. But its starting to build up and even the littlest things seem to set me off. Its a feeling on my chest that i cant explain like a ball taking my breath away. I have looked up on line stress management and have found nothing that is usefull. I have every day stress like bills, children, illness. But like i said im horrible at dealing w/ it. It stacks up on me and i cant breath i want to run away from it. Any ideas, someone help me!

u need somethin to use like an outlet. i dealt with anxiety a whole buncha times for a while now and what really helps me if to think positive about things when there are some negative things happening. think about the good rather than the bad or u'll end up worse than just a ball in ur throat...believe me~ try to find a fun hobby of some sort it always helps me

I agree that finding an outlet for anxious energy is a good idea. I've struggled with anxiety and depression my whole life. Nothing really helped until I got Toby. I was able to channel all my anxiety into energy to train, mentally stimulate and exercise him. I've done loads better ever since.

Have you ever considered seeing a psychologist? I saw one regularly as a teen and it helped me immensely. Not a permanent thing, just a way to learn about your triggers and coping mechanisms.

It does get better. I promise. If you want to talk more, please PM me.

Gina, you aren't alone! I suffer from OCD which is an anxiety disorder, and have been coping for as long as I can remember. Exercise helps a LOT, and with 8 dogs I get a lot of it. Walking dogs is really calming to me; plus it helps the dogs burn some energy as well. What helps me the most is knowing that the anxiety never lasts. It'll spike and linger for about 20 minutes and then it just passes. The key is to just hold out that long; once realizing that that 'pit in the stomach' feeling goes away after a while, it's easier to "recognize" triggers and just acknowledge the anxiety is there; and just push forward, knowing it'll go away soon enough. Anxiety is very much chemical as is mental and recognizing it as a symptom instead of feeling bad about it will help, too. =) Good luck and if you ever need to just vent I'm here too.

Lostlake I agree! It is more mental but some people deny it so it keeps gettin worse for them. Mine finally died down when my bf helped me realize that. As for me I had really really bad symptoms...that I do get from time to time now when I get majorly stressed out. Another reason why I wanna go back to workin out to feel better about myself. It sure is great to have people relate though and not think ur the only weirdo out there with this issue. I'm so so so sorry u have ocd...ive read a whole book about that with stories on people who have it and that,....i hate readin books o.o this one was interestin tho

I have always had anziety disorders, i refuse to take meds after loosing a pregnancy while on them. I use to see a psychologist when i was younger, but i self medicated and really dont remember half the conversations we had. I just have this feeling im drowning. And i cant catch my breath. Im really at a loss right now. My old habits are not something i want to bring back to reality. I worked hard to get my self clean, and i thought i was over this, but this year has been really hard for me. and i cant seem to get my footing.
