We have a HUGE scratching tree on the main level of our house and right beside it is a little ottoman with their food dishes on top. The ottoman is destroyed. You can see the quick in most of their nails so we're able to keep them fairly short too.
Thankfully they've left our couches alone for the most part. I bought Odie a little couch for Christmas and one of our cats has left it alone but I've caught the other scratching it a few times. I've used the feliway pheromone plug in before to help de-stress our one cat when we moved and I might use it again when we get our new couch.
When Odie was a puppy she chewed a tiny hole in the couch and we used the bitter apple spray and it worked wonders. She never tried chewing it again.
Aww no they are not bad kitties. I guess they just have expensive taste, lol,
prefer the feel of leather.
We have leather sofa, loveseat, and chair in our living room. We have no problems with our two chihuahuas and our leather furniture. There are no scratches from our chi's nails or dog hairs on the leather. Plus leather is easy to clean.

Six chihuahuas and all leather seating in this house! No problems here! WE got ours because of allergies. Ditto on the easy to keep clean and dust-free.

I don't get to pick the furniture but when I do it will be inexpensive or fake leather. I have 2 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 ferrets among other things and plan to get a fox so expensive leather is a no go.
I also plan on wood, stone, or tile flooring NOT carpet. I hate the carpet we have here. We have an area of natural stone and I love that it stays clean. Rugs will be everywhere but you can actually clean rugs.
Leather is just a ton easier to clean, and less likely to attract anything icky.
