Douglas is dog number two. Pushy pushy if you stop, he will push his head under your hand, paw, lick, and just all around harass the hand for more. Silly boy.

My lab loves pets too but is less pushy. She will come lie down and roll over for tummy rubs and if you quit she paws you.

Great vid Michelle, thanks for posting!
We have a bunch of affectionate cuddle bums too, it's nice for us and it's nice for them.
Rocky & Benji can be demanding, if you stop petting they'll paw at you for more.

I was so happy that I found that video before I took Edie home, since it turned out she really doesn't care for petting. She loves being on my lap, but never solicits petting or really seems to enjoy it - I can't help doing it sometimes D:

I wonder, does anyone think it might be possible to teach a dog to enjoy being stroked more? I must admit, I would love Edie to enjoy contact, even a bit. It'd be a good reward in recall training, too.

You could probably condition her to feel better about petting by pairing it with something you know she does really like (treats or a favorite toy or activity), but if she only likes it through reconditioning, it'll probably always only be a mid-level reinforcer and probably won't be what you want to focus on when you start recall training.

Is Edie a puppy? Weirdly, I have found some pups go through a sort of 'aloof' phase where they just aren't super interested in petting, and then then come out of it and start to solicit pets. On the other hand, some dogs just prefer to interact with us in other ways and aren't big fans of being pet.
