I'm totally paranoid about leaving lexie in the car. so much so i just wont do it now. mum says im being silly and that the likelihood of someone smashing the window and stealing her is very unlikely.

My response was "well do you really want to risk it?", with so many dogs being stolen lately i just said never to take her out if she would be left in the car, out of eye view.

well i was exploring the net the other day looking for birthday present ideas for her, and i came across this http://www.petloc.com/index.html , its a lead/collar that padlocks around thier neck and also padlocks onto somethins solid in the car at the other end, or around a post outside a shop or something. the leash part is reinfoced with steal cable and totally cutproof. so dogs are unstealable!

the other thing is its only suitable for larger chis as its pretty weighty and needs a solid neck to support it, also the collar part comes so you can rivit it where you need t, but once the rivit is placed its permenant, so not suitable for growing dogs.

just thought i'd share what i think is a great find, and means i'll feel a lot happier leaving lexie in the car.

Wow, good idea, It dosen't look that heavy. I only take Paco in the car during the winter if I'm going to leave him . It's much too hot in california to leave a pet in the car during any other time. I would never leave him tied outside in front of a store that just seems like a bad idea for such a small dog, you never know what people are going to do.

Yeah, an other one here from California. I don't leave my dogs in the car unless it is at night and I am just running in to get a soda or something. It gets so hot in a car so fast that we have pets dying from heat stroke a lot around here during the warm months. That looks like a good investment, but I would think for a larger dog, it looks to be a bit heavy, imo.

I never leave my dogs out side shops or in the car. I just can't bring myself to do it because if they did get taken I don't know what I would do!
Plus I was in pets at home one day and I was looking on the notice board where they have puppies and other animal adverts and I saw this one saying stolen chihuahua. I read it and it was a chihuahua had been stolen put of someones locked car when they had only went into a shop for 5 mins!

I don't leave Daisy in the car and i'd never leave her outside a shop.. too paranoid she'd get stolen on stamped on by mistake..

She only stays in the car when i fill up with petrol but i pay at pump so she's always there!! If i need to go into a shop i generally put her in her carrier or ask the owner if its okay if i pop in with her and i'm carrying her!!

There is no way I would leave Rocky in the car or outside a shop, would never forgive myself if he was stolen.

If I am going shopping he is left at home where he is safe and locked in. If me and Tony are popping to the shops we take Rocky but one of us stand outside with him. I also leave him in the car while filling my car with petrol but thats it.

Maybe I'm not reading the site correctly, but it looks like you clip this to your existing collar, harness, or choke chain. Well, that's what it said anyway. Or I guess you could make a loop like you do for the post or object you are tethering to. In any of these cases, all the thief has to do is unlatch the collar or harness or open the choke chain or loop enough to slip the dog's head through it. I'm not real sure how this is a deterent to theft, except it takes a couple seconds longer to get the dog.

NEVER,a chi was taken from a car here in bucks last year,they popped in to get some sweets left the dog in the car park,only took thieves seconds to get the door open ,luckily they got the dog back after paying a ransom
