I've decided to do a diary on the raw feeding. Please feel free to leave any comments.
Sunday 14th FebI've decided I've had anough of wasting my money on different branded dog food just for my dogs to turn their noses up at it. I can't say I blame them, can you? So I've read a few different websites on the subject and asked a few questions to get me started.
I've been to my local super market and brought some chicken breast fillets (boneless and skinless) froze them ready to start on Monday.
Monday 15th Feb
Today is the day. Chicken is defrosting. I can't say I'm not nervous about the raw meat thing but I'm going to give it ago.
Morning feed:
I've weighed out the chicken 3oz for Phoebe and 3oz for Charlie here goes.....
Well it's gone well both dogs have eat it. Phoebe wasn't sure at first what to do with it but Charlie got stuck in straight away.
Going to the shops to get some chicken thighs with the bone in for their tea time feed.
Noon feed:
Again it's gone well both dogs have eat it and the bone (which surprised me because they've never had it before) Phoebe had 3oz but Charlie had 4oz because he's still growing
I still have my concerns about the whole raw thing but I've read somemore stuff about it so we will see. I've brought a whole, free range, chicken to cut up myself. I've managed to get 3 days meals out of it so they're in the freezer. I can't seem to find breasts with bone in.
Tuesday 16th Feb
Morning feed:
It's not gone to good this morning. Phoebe has vomited all hers up so I'm thinking maybe it's not so good. I feel really bad bad for her because she's got to wait for her noon feed before she gets some more. Charlie has eat all of his with no problems.
Noon feed:
I've decided to hand feed Phoebe as she has a tendancy to gulp her food. Phew, she's kept it down. Charlie again no problems. He tried to hide some of it so I've had to move that (can't have raw meat lurking about. YUK)
Charlie seems a bit quieter than usual. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with his new diet. It's almost like he's being a good boy (don't think i'm happy about that lol)
Wednesday 17th Feb
Morning feed:
Again hand feeding Phoebe and it must be working because she's keeping it down. They both seem quite excited now when they see me getting it ready.
Noon Feed:
Going great. They both are chomping on the bones like they've done it for years lol.
Charlie's still a bit quiet. I'm gonna have to keep me eye on him.
I've decided to give morning feeds without bone and noon feeds with bone and it seems to be going well. I'm still abit worried that they only have what seems like small amounts because Phoebe still seems hungry (mind you she's a Pug so I should expect that lol) and Charlie is looking for more.
Thursday 18th Feb
Morning feed:
I feel like a pro at this lol (just joking)
Both very excited about breakfast and it's gone down well
I've got to say I'm getting sick of chicken. I can't wait to add other meats and see how they react to it but I will stick with the chicken. I don't want to cock it up now.
Noon feed:
I left it a bit longer before feeding (30 minutes longer) because we had guests. I think the dogs new they should have been fed because they kept running in the kitchen and barking at me. They are clever lol.
I brought another, free range, chicken today to cut up for the next couple of days.
