Week 1 (August 26th-September 2nd
Flea Bath, Frontline, Adjustment to new home and new dog. Evaluation of her temper and training. Food switch to Evolution from Pedigree.
On the plus side:
She's great on a leash, she's eager to learn, she's pretty, and she's conformationally correct.
Unfortunately, she doesn't know:
1. That it is not okay to go potty wherever.
2. How to sit.
3. How to down.
4. How to come.
5. Not to nip.
6. That other dogs can come in my lap too.
She's basically where I expect a 6 week old puppy to be at in terms of training.
Week 2 (September 3rd through 9th.)
Potty Training!
I've closed the door to her favorite pooping spot, and when she isn't physically in the room with me where I can see her, she's in her kennel. We've tried leaving the door to the backyard open (she prefers the carpet, thank you.) We've tried taking her poop out there and showing it to her, now we're assuming her previous owner just never even tried to potty train her, and are starting over from scratch.
Day one:
Put her in kennel over night, took her out in the morning. She pee'd! Good girl. No poop. Transfered her back and forth between kennel and outdoors till she pooped. Yay good girl!
No accidents until late that night when she pooped right before going in her kennel for the night. Oops. My fault, I'd forgotten about it.
Day two: Went out, snuck in while I was distracted with the other dog, pooped on carpet. Gah. Shut the door next time!
Put baby gate up to block off most of the carpeted area. At least I have a smaller area to watch.
