Default Tia's weight journal

Tia
Short haired Chi
Age: 7
Weight: 8.50 lbs
Goal Weight: 6 lbs

How we plan to lose the weight:
1/2 cup of TOTW Pacific Stream (1/4 cup in am, 1/4 cup in pm, both mixed with some pumpkin to add more volume and health benefits)
At least 1 hour of walking a day, aim for more walk time then that.

That sounds like a ton of weight for an 8.5 lb dog! Did the vet say she needs to lose that much? Is she morbidly obese?

Edited to add: scooped by LS! And yes, it's a whole Bella!

The vet wants her at about 6lbs. When feeling her ribs she has quite a layer of fat and she is a rectangle when viewed from above. I'd really just like to get her healthy, ya know? I took her for a short walk today and she couldn't walk very fast so I know this is going to be a long process. We go back in January for annual check for Crackers and he wants to weigh her then.

Wow, poor Tia probably can't wait to lose the weight and feel good. Definitely take it slow with exercise and build up her endurance. Also, maybe post progress pics as she loses weight?

He didn't say morbidly obese, but obese none the less. What do you guys think is a good weight? This is from the vet who has pushed science diet on me for months and told me that I "had to" put her on the Science Diet r/d in order for her to be able to lose weight. I disagreed and took him I planed to feed her the same as crackers, but less.

It really depends on her body type. If you could post some pics from the side and top, we may be able to help a bit. But the best way to tell is by touch. You should have her lose weight until you can feel her ribs easily but not see them.
