Hello from Oxfordshire, UK
Hello all. I've been lurking for a few months whilst making our decision about getting a Chihuahua. We have now found our dog and will be bringing him home with us next Tuesday, so thought it was time to finally start posting!
I spent a couple of months contacting breeders and asking questions to be sure we were making the right choice. Alot of breeders just offered me a puppy without bothering to answer any of my questions or ask me anything in return, which rang alarm bells with me so I steered clear of them! We finally found a lovely gentleman who is a Kennel Club accredited breeder and who took the time to phone me and have a long talk. He had puppies due so we asked to be put on his list for a little boy.
As it turned out his bitch only had 1 boy puppy and he already had someone who'd been on the waiting list for a boy longer than us. However, he did have another dog who he had taken on with a view to using him for breeding, but had decided not to use as he has another boy who he slightly prefers. He could have sold this little man on to another breeder but said he would rather he went to live with a family, and said he liked the sound of us so offered him to us if we liked him- subject to meeting us in person of course.
Alfie is a 7 month old fawn long-coat. We went along to meet him with our 6 year old daughter Hope, and he was an absolute star! He was brilliant with Hope- really happy to sit on her lap and not worried by us even though we were strangers, he was really chilled with us and sat with us on the sofa for ages, but was also happy to run around and play with the other young dogs. To put it mildly, we were absolutely smitten!
So, this time next week Alfie will be joining our family. We are really excited (well, me & Hope are excited, my husband doesn't really do excitement lol) and have been counting down the days. I'm sure I'll have loads of questions for you all over the next few months.
