Hello everyone!
Hi everyone,
My name is April. I'm married and we have one dog a little chihuahua named Jackson. I got him a little over a year ago from a family off of craigslist who could no longer keep him. The lady said they got him from some people who were abusive to him and he shows the effects by being very very afraid of all people. He has warmed up to me very nicely and is my best friend as well as my husband and our family members but when we take him out he starts to shake and hides behind my legs when ever he sees a stranger. He is fine with my cat and other dogs though.
Jackson is the third dog in my life. My first I got when I was 10 years old and he was a golden retriver named lucky. He got cancer and got to that morning where he could no longer stand up so we had to make the hard decision to put him down. He was 15 years old. My second dog we got just a year after our golden. He is a jack russell terrier mix and his name is Milo. He was owned by someone one street over but he would come visit us and could slip under our fence and he would come everyday and play with lucky for a few hours and then go home. He would even steal a toy or two on occasion lol. One day we heard him barking and went outside to see and the dog catcher was after milo so we asked what was going on she explained to us that his family had just moved away a day or two ago and left him so he was now a stray and that they had been getting alot of complaints about him running through peoples yards and that the family owed them fines for letting him run loose like that but had moved. So we asked if we could keep him in our fence and make it where he couldn't get out and we would either keep him ourselves or find him a good home ourselves. She agreed and said she would give us three days to decide. I begged my mom and she let us keep him and lucky and milo were the best of friends for 14 years.
After lucky passed milo got very depressed and would just do this very mournful howl all day long and even late at night. I swear it sounded like he was crying. I let some time pass and then me and my husband got jackson and brought him over to visit milo and milo perked right up and began running around and playing just like he did when he was a young dog with lucky. He no longer howls any more and he looks forward to our visits when we bring jackson over to play and jackson enjoys the companionship just as much as he gets so excited when we pull up in the driveway and he will run to the fence to get in with milo. Milo just turned 16 last month and jackson just turned 2 in july.
I'm very happy to have found this forum and look forward to getting to know other people who own chis and learn about them as this is my first chi.
