Wink hump addict

hi im new to here! had a look around and you all seem very friendly!!

ok so heres the problem my lil chi KOKORO is now 10 1/2 months old and in the last two weeks has become besotted with my west highland terrier DRU following her everywhere and smelling everywhere she sits/wees. he has also not sleeping at night until she is able to sleep in the same room as him which is not always possible. (note: she is NOT in heat) he has also started a huge humping issue involving my poor (male) yorkshire terrier SPIKE (who luckily is very well tempered)! is there anything i can do to calm him down without having him snipped?!?!

any and all suggestions welcome!!

also on a non related note .... can chihuahuas actually howl?

I would have Dru checked for a urinary tract infection. They can mimic the scent of a bitch in season.

The humping with Spike could be frustration or dominance.

Hormones are hard to control in intact males. Is there a reason why you don't want to get him neutered?

And yes! Chihuahua's certainly can howl. A short search on youtube will give you great examples.

Also curious as to why you don't want him neutered. There's a LOT of benefits of it; not just to help with mounting but also marking, and sometimes hormonal aggression issues. Neutered boys make the best pets!

Otherwise there's not much you can do other than correcting him every time he starts to do it. But keep in mind, he's not doing it to be mean; he's doing it because his hormones are going crazy. It's a VERY frustrating for an intact male to even have to be around a female, especially one that's unspayed. I wouldn't wish that on any dog... some have used the example of throwing a college boy into a room with a bunch of naked strippers and saying he's not allowed to do anything. He's just doing what comes naturally.... neutering him is going to be your best bet for HIS peace of mind, and it will allow him to be more relaxed and a happier pet in general.
