Question New Chi owner in Canada - rescue from California

Hello everyone,
Came across this forum and I have already found lots of helpful tips and advice. I very recently adopted a Chihuahua from a high-kill shelter in California. I am on Vancouver Island where there is a huge demand for small dogs so there are several rescue groups bringing these dogs up which is fantastic!!! Pairing dogs in need with people actively looking for them its a great idea.
The shelter called her Jazzy but she has no name yet.. she was a stray and they figure she is about a year old but doesn't respond to it which is good because I'm not crazy on the name. I am open to any suggestions! She has the sweetest personality which is incredible if you see her condition... she is so thin you can see all of her bones and it's heart breaking I went to the store I get the food for my 5 year old yorkie at and put her on a puppy diet that the woman recommended because it has higher calories/fat content. I am open to any suggestions on ways to bring her weight back up to a healthy level!

What a sweet little girl, congrats!
You could also try adding a little bit of salmon or coconut oil to her food just to boost her fat/caloric intake a bit more. Did the shelter already worm her several times?

She is beautiful! Oh she needs a MUCH more feminine name since she looks so girly!

I'd get her on a high calorie, great quality food. She does not need a food with filler (that will just fill her up rather than good nutrition-like junk food for kids) just good, rich calories.
Here is a good site to check your food and/or find something really great for her.
Dog Food Reviews | Dog Food Ratings
Congrats to both of you!!

She is lovely, I think a really good food and lots of love from her new family is all she really needs.

She's so cute! That's great that she's found a home where she'll get the care she needs. Ours lost a lot of weight after her spay. It's taken awhile, but she seems to now be back to her normal weight. We just free fed her her normal puppy development kibble, and gave her as much of her favourite wet dog food (merrick puppy) as she wanted. She bulked up nicely! We still free feed her as she seems to only eat when she's hungry.

Whats your yorkies name? I think it helps to narrow down names by picking one that seems to "go" with your other pets names.

Congrats on your new addition! She is very pretty. I would recommend putting her on a high quality grain-free diet as well.
