Hi! In from British columbia, Canada and I just adopted a rescue chi from Vegas! He's 3 and I don't believe he's ever had a real home. He's my first dog (other than the one I grew up with) and any advice would be much appreciated! He's a total sweetheart, super cuddly and loving to me although he does seem to have issues with people he doesn't know, especially men. Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself and Oscar

Welcome to CP-- this forum is really useful and the people are nice.

Congratulations on your new addition and thank you so much for rescuing him.
I would suggest picking up a complete Chihuahua book, such as "The Everything Chihuahua Book," as well as a book specifically targeted at training(Victoria Stilwell has a couple out, but there are many!) Knowing characteristics about chi's helped and is helping me quite a lot with Brewster, because I had never had a chi prior to him (I've had him for just over 3 weeks.)
The stickies in the forums are extremely useful, so please use them! I spent hours combing through the forums and there is some great information on here. Also, I like to watch It's Me or the Dog for training tips and ideas.

Welcome to the forum, and bless you for rescuing/adopting! Our little 2 year old Chica, who we adopted back in April from a local shelter, also had some issues with unfamiliar people at first (especially men). But with consistent training (a firm "NO!" for growling and or barking at strangers, and praise & a small treat for quiet, friendly interactions) she has really come around.
