Pablo does NOT look hydrocephalic to me. At all. I agree with Terri, I would not go back to that vet. Find someone who is familiar with toy breeds. A molera (soft spot) is NOT a sign of hydrocephalus in our breed. Some chi's have open molera's their entire lives. He is very handsome. Welcome!

Bella has a pretty large molera and it causes no problems.

You're right- it's normal for some Chis to have a molera throughout their lives. In fact, I think it's supposed to be pretty common. I'd definitely get a second opinion from another vet. I wish I had some advice to offer, but I've never dealt with this before.

We got Festus when he was approximately a year and a half old. We took him for a vet check right away and he said Festus had a soft spot but it should not be a problem. That it was common in the breed. He is now 3 years old and the soft spot has not caused any problems,even despite a couple of accidental bonks on the head.

He looks pretty perfect to me, Bella has a soft spot and she's nearly 3, never been a problem, welcome to the forum.

First of all, welcome and Pablo is just ADORABLE! Love love love him.

One of mine still has his 'soft spot' at 4 years old and I do believe we were warned of hydrocephalus when we got him. 3 out of the 5 in his litter died and it was touch and go as to whether he was going to make it. He looked so weak and feeble compared to his big and strong brother. So that's why I took him. My friend/breeder couldn't keep a boy regardless so I took him on the premise that he may not last but he did and he's just perfect. He had a bad bump on the head once - jumping up on legs unexpectedly and falling down onto his head. We rushed him to the vets as he was visibly upset but he was fine. I think just keeping a watchful eye and getting him checked when you think is necessary xxx

I think this vet doesn't know much about chihuahuas! Lots of chi's have 'moleras' and most of them do NOT have hydrocephalus. You would know---eyes are wide set apart and the head is really big. Most of them die.
