Default Hi I'm newbie, Katie and my love of my life... My chi Pablo

Hi there,

I'm new obviously, andAttachment 8900 this is my chi Pablo!

I joined this forum mainly for the love of my chihuahua, but to look for advice too!

Pablo is now eight months old, he weighs 3.4 pounds and seems so happy and healthy...

I got Pablo at 8 weeks old and at our first trip to the vet you could imagine my heart break when the vet told me he had a molera and possible hydrocephalus, I argued with him at the time I had read chis can keep their soft spot their whole life, but he insisted and I got Pablo an ultrasound scan...

He then told me that he had a mild bit of fluid and would most likely die with in a Few months, would be lucky to make it to two years old and best give him bak to the breeder...

This was a massive NO, I couldn't do that!

Any way since then Pablo shows NO signs of any symptoms of hydro he is such a happy little dog and seems healthy in every way!!

The vet has since given me conflicting info saying he could live his whole life with it?

I just don't understand, I wonder if any one here has experience of hydrocephalus? Is it possible he has made a Misdiagnosis? Should I see another vet?

Cheers
Katie

He is so handsome and looks so perfect. I would go to another vet and get another opinion. I can't imagine how your heart sank, what awful news, then tell you to take him back after you have fallen in love with him. Glad you have him and someone else didn't take him. Ike still has his soft spot and he doesn't like me touching it. But he is only 4 months old. Say a little prayer that your little guy is healthy.

What a sweetie! I would get a second opinion, or wait until he shows some symptoms? I have had different vets tell me completely opposite things before, but at least yours wanted to test and was concerned for you.

Welcome! Your baby is certainly handsome.

A molera is not a sign of hydro. Most Chis have moleras and are perfectly healthy. Usually dogs with hydro have large over formed foreheads which I don't see in your boy.

I would go to another vet to get a second opinion on the diagnosis. Even if he does have it, as long as he has no symptoms he can live a healthy life.

My three and a half pound girl has a molera too. Not only is it common, it is not even a fault in the breed standard. I don't mean to sound harsh but I would ditch that vet.
