I took my grandpas two Chihuahuas when he died Friday. I am keeping 1 and re-homing the other. I have had a lot of dogs growing up and did a little dog/cat rescue over the last 4 or 5 years but now I am starting to do petsitting. I currently have cats, rabbits, rats, reptiles, spiders & birds and am taking care of my mom's dogs. I am switching my Chihuahuas and cats to a raw pray model diet. These are my first purebred Chihuahuas but I did have a Chihuahua/Jack Russel Terrier mix before that was my baby but she was old when I got her and had cancer and she attacked one of my mom's large dogs and was killed . The one that I am keeping needs a new name since his current one is a bad word but the other one is named Tooker.

Sorry to hear about your grandad

Can you not keep both dogs? I assume they've been together a long time. It seems a shame to separate them and to add losing each other to the upset they are probably already feeling over the loss of your grandad. It doesn't take much more to look after two chi's compared to keeping one and I'm sure they'll love to stay together.

Good luck with them, they both look very sweet.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I agree with Mercedes--would it be at all possible to keep both dogs? They've already lost their beloved Dad/your Grandpa, and then to now be seperated from eachother too, would only be that much harder on them. Tooker looks so sad, bless his sweet heart. It's your decision though, of course. Again, I am so very sorry. May your special memories of your Grandfather bring you comfort during this difficult time.

I would love to keep both and kind of hope that I can keep both but I am living with my parents right now and my dad is ok with me keeping one but I don't think that he would be happy with me keeping both since my mom already has 6 medium/large dogs. The dogs have been together for 4 or 5 years but they are not attached to each other and seem to just tolerate each other so I don't think that they will each other much. Tooker was looking really sad for the first 2 days but he is starting to warm up to us and will even come up to me of attention some times and is running away from us less.
