Default Feline Nutrition...?

Well, since we have the house to ourselves finally (YAY) and our feline-allergic roommate is no longer here; OH and I have been considering adopting a cat.

While I loooooove kittens; (it's sad how many free kitten litters are posted every day on our local Craigslist, which makes it even harder...) I am leaning toward adopting an adult (skipping the initial vaccines, spay, etc.). Currently, we are waiting to hear from a couple who has a baby on the way and a lot of financial hardship who were looking to have someone foster their 2 cats until February and we won't be making any decisions until we know the status on that; as I'd rather help out them since we know far too well what it's like to be financially $&@*ed!!

Anyway... I haven't had a cat in a few years; and not since I started feeding my dogs raw. Is the same prey model ratios applicable to cats??

I've looked and it doesn't seem to be that there is a Cat Food Analysis website like "dogfoodanalysis.com"... =/ I do know that most of my fave dog food brands have feline formulas though like EVO and TOTW.

Does anyone on here feed their kitties a prey model raw diet?? Is it any different than it is for canines? (Assuming it would probably be more fish and poultry based... can't imagine a cat eating a pork rib lol.)

Funny.. I was going to post a similar thread! I am moving in with 2 roommates in a few months, and one of them will be getting a cat. I wanted to find a good cat kibble to suggest to her. I don't think she would be comfortable feeding a raw diet (if there is one for cats) and I am not sure she would spring for kitty ZP. I will be interested to see what everyone says.

Such a nice thing to adopt an adult kitty! (And, I must say, I am rather jealous! )

At the moment, we can't have our *own* cat. We do help care for my in-laws out-door kitties that I adore. We feed them TOTW Rocky Mountain Feline Formula w/ Roasted Venison & Smoked Salmon. I love your idea to carry over raw-fed ways for whatever lucky cat you bring home!

Will this be the first time your dogs have lived with or interacted with cats?

I've done what your doing for 2 cats. It's not that bad made the OH and I realise we are NOT cat people lmao.

My friend feeds prey model for his sick cat, ever since he started feeding it she has had no issues at all. He doesn't know the ratio or anything (his mom does it) but I do know it is possible.

Cat Forum : Cat Discussion Forums a quick search for the word raw collected a healthy amount of results I would highly suggest consulting all of them.

Awesome thank you for the link!! No, this won't be the first time any of them have been around cats. When Kahlua was just a pup, her best friend was a shelter kitten we named Microwave Refrigerator Toaster Oven ("K.A." for short (kitchen appliances.)) The kitten was bigger than her but the two were always playing. The others had cats before we owned them. Tequila though is in love with my 'future brother in laws'' cat Louie:

When we moved in with this other couple, however, she was horribly allergic to cats so we never got any.

A good link I found ....

What About Cats?

If I was raw feeding kitties, I would supplement with taurine. Just sprinkle a capsule on food every day to make sure that they are getting enough.

I've got to reccomend Evolve, I really do. It's nutricious and not too expensive, I can find it at my local Harris Teeter store.
