Introducing Kanyon: How he adopted our family. (Long Story) - Chihuahua Forum : Chihuahua Breed Dog Forums

We've had Kanyon since October 2010 but now that he's ours for sure now, I want to introduce him to you all. You may have seen him on facebook but here is his story.

Late October 2010 a couple mornings we were seeing this scruffy dog outside but by time we'd go out there he was gone. Finally one day I opened the door to go outside and there he was! He was so dirty and smelly, had tons of stickers in him, he was a mess I thought he was homeless but then I did notice he had a collar on him! YAy I love when I find dogs with collars gives me a chance to find their home..... of course no name tag. I was ticked! I hate when people do not put a tag on their dog it makes it soooo easy to contact their family when lost! lol Anyways I gave him some food and water he ate and drank so fast! Also the collar he had on was soooo tight I had to loosen it up for him, poor guy!

So he hung out around our house for at least 2 weeks....poor thing had a name but since no collar I just ended up calling Kanyon! He looks like the Grand Canyon!!! lol Well one day a car drove by our house and yelled out the window to the dog to go home? I was like ok is this his owners?? Never found out who these people were but the way they came there is no outtting so I went up there went to all houses nobody knew this dog. Then one early morning Kanyon was outside and I heard a voice calling him, it was his owners!!! The guy called him and he wouldn't go finally he got a stick to play with him to tease him nito getting into the back of the truck and in he went. I was sad but happy at the same time thinking at least he went home and they found their dog.

Was I wrong! lol Next day I go outside and this big o brown dog his looking right back at me! Happy as can be too, I was shocked! Again he stayed with us for another 2-3 weeks and the owners came back for him. But again the next day Kanyon would be back at our house. Making a longer story just long lol this happened at least 2-3 more times in between weeks with the owners coming to get him and then Kanyon showing back up to our house! Then we didn't see Kanyon for almost a 3 weeks. I figured the owners tied him up or something. Feeling horrible because i know the dog some reason wanted to not be there.

3 weeks without seeing Kanyon I'm outside with the girls and I look up the road to see this big frickin happy dog running towards me, it was Kanyon! lol He was sooo happy! Stayed with us for a few days and then the owners stopped by to get him THIS TIME I was able to catch them before they took off so fast! I talked with him and he said sorry that his dog was bothering us and we said hes no bother at all he's a good dog on and on and the owner said his name was Duke, that they adopted him when he was 8 weeks old and this was the first time in all his life he had ran away from home so many times. He said he thought the reason he was running away from home was because we had two girl dogs and he wanted to be with them so that's why they got him fixed (Thats when he was gone for 3 weeks) but that most not have been it beause he was back again after being fixed lol. So we talked and he said he was an outside dog and he didn't like coming inside (Which was bull b/c he loved being inside our house!) The guy said that "Duke"/Kanyon is a free dog out there because they live on 50acers and have a huge lake that he runs free and has fun in, sounds like a great place for a Cheseape Bay Retreiver? That's what they live for. Not Kanyon though, he just wanted some love and attention. Anyways they took Duke/Kanyon away and I thought that would be the last time we saw him. Of course you get the drill, he was back again the next morning. This kept happening all the way up until March then one day the owners just didn't come back for him anymore....I emailed him, I facebooked him he won't ever answer me. So THIS is how Kanyon adopted us! I figure these people just gave up on Kanyon, if he was happy where he was he wouldn't have ever ran away. We live on acerage too and let Kanyon run out free, he always has the chance to go back home if he wants but he never even thinks about it. Always comes right back to the porch after going out. You can easly tell this dog never had toys, hugs, love, kisses. He just LOVES attention and we give it to him, so he'll never leave lol. He is apart of our family now and I bought him is own collar and NAME TAG now too! =)

So this is how Kanyon adopted us.

Also if you're wondering!! =) Yes, all of the Chis get along with Kanyon. We actually had Kanyon, Kizzie & Shayley all together before we adopted Kaige. Our family was no expecting to adopt a big dog for another few years but Kanyon had other plans and I would have it any other way now. We love Kanyon and he found his own place to call him.
So now our family is...Shayley May, Kizzie Fae, Kaige Gray & Kanyon Jay!

Hi! I'm Kara and I just joined this forum. Thank you for taking him into your family! I'm glad the previous owner gave up on him. He obviously loves it at your place!
