Along with Sissy I also own Goldfish. I had bought 3 a while back - 1 medium one and 2 small ones, and the 2 small ones died the week after i brought them home and after a tank cleaning. ). So after a few weeks of only having 1 medium white and gold fish i bought another one today. . i'm happy i got the courage to leave the house and get a fish because of my ptsd and major depression.

Well, I did what i usually do with goldfish. I have always had a few goldfish anyawy. long story short an hour after i put the new fish in the tank, it looks like it will be dead before tomorrow. It seems to want to swim on the ground. It was Very much alive in the bag! Argh.. It cost me $1.07 but that's really the point. .

I'll update tomorrow whether or not everything went well during the night. It just made me sad because the fish was very much alive in the bag in the car. and now it just swims alittle at the bottom of the tank.

Any advice?
I'm not sure what i did wrong. i let the fish sit in the tank for an hr before putting it in the tank by itself w/o the bag (i didn't put the pet store water in w/ my water that i put in.).

Where did you buy the fish from? My brother bought a fish and it wiped out his entire aquarium. I was so sad for him. I used to think that goldfish were just not hardy fish but I did some research and found out that they're just really difficult to take care of. I found this list of stuff that can help take care of goldfish. You probably already know all of it since you've owned goldfish before but I though it couldn't hurt to just pass it along. It was all news to me! (I've never actually owned more than about 2 fish or so and I was less than 14-years-old).

I'm horrible with goldfish. They always died on me so I gave up trying to have them...... Then I got a betta! They're much easier to keep alive. I have two now ( males in separate tanks of course) Ru I've had for about a year and Loki have had for about six months. Loki has a gold snail in his tank with him named Thor.

Before these two I had a betta who lived for 4 years. I love bettas, they definetly have personality.

I was thinking about getting a betta fish prior to the goldfish but i didn't know anything on them..drats. i was saying to myself if all my goldfish died for some unknown reason w/ me feeding em and such i would buy myself a betta.

i buy all my goldfish from a private store. i checked petco/petsmart but their goldfish all look half dead swimming on it's sides... Poor fishies.

What kind of tank do you have your fish in? I have had fish for years I have a 55 gal. and 30 gal. aquarium at the moment. Are you running a filter? how long was the tank set up before you added the fish? Just a word of caution some fish forums are full of VERY passionate fish people who think their way is the only way, but there is absolutely no better place for helpful advice just put on a thick skin and don't take any thing personal. Aquarium Advice is the forum I like best.

mine is 3 gallons round one. i am not a huge fish owner just one that likes fish and just makes me room look good. it has nothing to do with the fish tank b-cuz my 1 fish does great.

I dont think its necessarily you did anything wrong... You found a perky one and floated it & you kept the store water out of your tank so you did everything correctly. That being the case it can really only be a couple things...
The water in you small tank is not conducive to other goldfish than the one who has adapted to it.
You bought a fish who appeared perky, healthy, etc. but really wasn't
or finally maybe the original fish is a bit of an aggressive fish and picked at the new fish a bit.

if you bought it at walmart, thats the first mistake...my son won a fish at a carnival. it lived for months and then died, so i was gonna pull a lassie and replace it. well every time i bought one from walmart it died....so i bought a bunch...they all died in a matter of days. we gave up....got him and my hubs parakeets...they are doing well!!!
